To figure yards: (l x w x d/ 27 = #yds)
Length in feet x Width in feet = Square feet x Depth (see factors below for depth in inches) = Cubic Feet and then divide by 27 to = yard(s)
Depth Factors - Inches to decimals:
Take the
inches and divide by 12 and use that number in the equation above.
| 1" = .08 |
3" = .25 |
5" = .42 |
7" = .58 |
9" = .75 |
| 2" = .17 |
4" = .33 |
6" = .50 |
8" = .67 |
10" = .83 |
Table below: 1 yard at # inches deep = Area of coverage
| 1" deep = 18' x 18' area |
4" deep = 9'9' area |
| 2' deep = 13' x 13' area |
5" deep = 8'x8' area |
| 3' deep = 10.5' x 10/5' |
6" deep = 7.5' x 7.5' area |
Tons per Yard
Number of yards (as you figured above) x conversion rate (see table below) = tons
The
conversion rate varies - these are the average numbers that
we use.
| Pea Stone to 1 1/4" stone = 1.27 |
Process = 1.50 |
| Washed sand = 1.25 |
Sandy Fill = 1.20 |
| Mason Sand = 1.20 |
Common Fill = 1.35 |
To figure
a round area for under
above ground pool:
# feet round divided by (/) 2 = # x itself = # x pie (3.1416) = sq ft x depth
divided by (/) 27 = yds
Then you take conversion of sand (1.25) to figure tons of sand
This table below is figured with a 3" depth
| 24' round = 5.24 tons |
27' round = 6.63 tons |
| 25' round = 5.68 tons |
28' round = 7.13 tons |
| 26' round = 6.15 tons |
30' round = 8.19 tons |
To figure the area for stone placement around the perimeter of the pool:
Take diameter of the pool x pie (3.1416) = circumference x width = sq ft x depth divided by 27 = yds.
Then if you need to figure tons use the conversion rate from above.
